Bridging Worlds : Latex Pixels

Latex Pixels was developed as an exploration of kinetic architecture and tactile interfaces.

There were several questions that guided my research. First, is kinetic architecture even viable? How can walls and ceilings become expressive through movement? How can this type of element improve building performance?

A network of motors are actuated by my calendar to behave as a reminder system; as the event approaches the motors undulate faster and faster. Each motors drives a rack and pinion gear system that is held by a custom designed hexagonal frame that is clad in latex.
